A Pennsylvania mother of three collapsed and later died after completing a half marathon Sunday.
Lindsay Doherty had just crossed the finish line of the race in Scranton when she lost consciousness.
Heroic resuscitation efforts failed to revive the 36-year-old, who was pronounced dead after she was rushed to Geisinger Community Medical Center.
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Scranton, where Doherty worked as development officer, released a statement on the tragedy as her loved ones waited for an autopsy to determine the cause.
“Lindsay was a bright, energetic young woman and a devoted wife and mother,” Bishop Joseph Bambera said in the statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband, three young children, her parents and her family.
